Carolyn Adams Garcia

Carolyn Adams Garcia, born May 7 1946 in Poughkeepsie NY, grew up in an unusual family. Her mother was born and raised in India by her missionary parents, and her father came from Canada to become a zoologist. They both were organizational developers and volunteered much time to the groups they supported.
Carolyn attended Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, and was raised in the Unitarian Church. After high school, she traveled to Palo Alto, California to work in the organic chemistry department at Stanford University.
Soon, Carolyn joined a wonderful group of psychedelic pioneers called “The Merry Pranksters” and began to experience a historical perspective and a cosmic wide horizon.
In 1967, in San Francisco, Carolyn settled down with her future husband and father of their children, Jerry Garcia. Life took many strange twists and turns as the 60’s flowered into the 70’s .
In 1984, the Grateful Dead founded Rex Foundation. Carolyn is a member of the Board of Directors, giving it a great amount of her time and energy, grounding in philanthropy and environmentalism. She is also a member of Threshold Foundation, and on the Board of the Further Foundation.
In 1976 Carolyn published a book on Organic Marijuana cultivation, “The Primo Plant” which is still in print.
Carolyn has lived in Oregon since 1993, but takes long forays to California to keep up with social networking, shows and meetings.
In 2001 Carolyn attended Burning Man and plans to continue participating and enjoying in this fabulous event as long as possible.
Carolyn lives on a small farm in the Willamette Valley of Oregon in a newly remodeled digital cottage, surrounded by sheep, cows and an occasional herd of wild elk.
Carolyn is an environmentalist, and allows her life to be guided by the heart.
She has three wonderful daughters and is very proud they are all working artists.
